BIOGRAPHY
Biljana Vasileva is an abstract painter born and living in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, 1973.
Her devotion for the art and her work began at an early age and continued and developed through her studies of printmaking and graphic design at the Academy of fine arts in Skopje. After graduation, she continued working and experimenting in painting, mostly mixed media and oil on canvas. Her early works are made by influence of expressionists; she used to use vivid expressive colours and gestures, which make easy to discover the way of building her paintings and drowings and displaying her sensations and emotions.
Her recent works are less expressive, but more filtrated and reducted. She is using earth, silent colours and her artworks are
now showing results of her deep observation and spiritual peace.
At the same time, she is interested in and doing graphic design, so she understands her painting as a way to turn back to the human nature and to escape from civilization and today's fast way of living and consuming things.
Biljana has been included in many selective group and solo exhibitions throughout Macedonia and Balkan countries. She had two solo exibitions: first in KIC, 2000, and second in MKC, Skopje, 2002, both in painting, oil on canvas and mixed media.

PROFFESIONAL ORIENTATION
At the same time she is interested in computer art and graphic design. Since 1998 computers are in the sphere of her interest and research.
She had worked at few solo projects in that sphere, and her proffesional dedication is working in printed mediums.

REVIEW FOR HER FIRST SOLO EXIBITION
"Slikite na Biljana Vasileva emaniraat energija chii semantichki refleksii na vizuelnite chiniteli se istorodni so rakopisot na nejzinoto dosegashno grafichko iskustvo, steknato vo tekot na studiite.
Crtezite i slikite se eden chist chin na egzistencija, oslobodeni od sekakva intencioznost. Vakov vid, prepoznatliv vo konceptot kako nov enformel, naogja moznosti za iskazuvanje na razlichni osobenosti od sopstvenite umetnichki potencijali.
Ostanuvajki vo domenot na gestualnata apstrakcija, vidliv e procesot na gradenje na deloto.
Odnosot kon znakovite vo prostorot, nadzorot nad improvizacijata, blikanjeto na psihichkata i fizichkata energija i dinamikata na avtomatizmot vo znakovnosta ni zboruvaat za "discipliniranje" i kontrola na sopstvenite impulsi.
Vakviot gestualen grafizam na Vasileva nudi optimistichka vizija, koja go provocira prashanjeto za stepenot na apstraktnosta na deloto."

ABOUT HER WORK IN PRINTMAKING
During her studies she was preocupated with printmaking, using it for multiplicated realisation of expressive filtrations of her artistic interests. She had worked mostly in combined tehnique: etching/engraving, also drypoint, but her favorit tehniques are linoleum and woodcut.

This is one of her prints made during the studies.Throughout this artwork you can see and understand synthesis between influence of nature and urban elements, as an unavoidable aspect, consequence of todays way of living, expressed through this medium with all its caracteristics.
